Calling entrepreneurs and entrepreneurstobe: questions regarding how to start and grow a company? Boston Chinese Invitation Club (BCIC) and MIT Greater China Club are here to help! You are cordially invited to the first Entrepreneurial Bootcamp on March 31st, 2019 (Sunday, 2:00pm – 5:00pm) at MIT Tang Center. This event will focus on common legal and financing issues as well as the most concerned areas in business development, to help entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs-to-be clear away roadblocks in the founding and growing process.

Entrepreneurial spirit, however, is beyond founding a company. Do you have new ideas and want to develop the ideas to improve organizational profitability within established businesses? Are you wondering how to align resources to launch a new product in a large foreign company? Come to our event. We invited entrepreneurs who can take the first step into making the organization a better place, for everyone in it.

Biography in alphabetical order:

Connie C. Dai

Attorney at CUTLER & WILENSKY LLP

Attorney Dai based out of CUTLER & WILENSKY LLP’s Waltham office and represents emerging to well-established companies with business structuring, commercial leases, contract drafting as well as other general corporate and employment matters.  She also represents clients in business acquisitions.  Attorney Dai represents clients in state and Federal courts as well as before private arbitration.  She has handled cases involving fraud, breach of contract, misappropriate of trade secrets, breach of computer fraud & Abuse Act, breach of fiduciary duty, non-compete in sales of business, wage & overtime violation, and employment discrimination.  Her represented companies include language services, healthcare services, technology, medical device, seafood, cultural exchange, immigration broker, Internet services, and medical research companies.

Attorney Dai has a rare blend of legal and business experience both nationally and internationally.  Since being raised in Shanghai, she has lived in Calgary, Toronto and Boston.  Internationally, Attorney Dai worked on cross border transactions for McDermott, Will & Emery’s Shanghai office.  She has extensive business experience in advising a variety of industry sectors in China, Canada and the U.S.  Earlier in her career, she oversaw the enforcement of anti-trademark infringement efforts by Coca-Cola China, as well as participated in joint venture negotiations that led to the establishment of several Coca-Cola bottling companies in China.

Prior to practicing law, Attorney Dai advised and counseled business start-ups in connection with formation issues, business planning and financing.  She has counseled established businesses on marketing and growth strategies, financing options and operation optimization.  In addition, Attorney Dai has negotiated business engagements on behalf of companies with revenues ranging from $1M to $15M.

She has a B.A., Business English from Shanghai University and an M.B.A. from University of Calgary in Canada.  She obtained the Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston.

Courtney Ann, CFA, CAIA

Founder & CEO of InvestorSpeαk, graduate from Harvard Business School

In addition to InvestorSpeαk, Courtney is involved in investments and advisory roles through Courtney Companies. She is an active seed and early-stage investor with numerous exits. Currently, Courtney is identifying the founding team for two start-ups she recently formed and seeded. She also serves in a board or advisory capacity for various organizations.

Courtney began her career in technology M&A before co-founding a company. After a successful exit for the technology start-up, she began investing in early-stage ventures and embarked on several years of experience in alternative investments. She first worked for a large macro hedge fund and, subsequently, in leadership positions for emerging managers developing new funds and products. In addition to HBS, Courtney earned a master’s degree in data science and an undergraduate degree in information systems engineering. She is a CFA charterholder, CAIA charterholder and heavily involved with the CAIA global curriculum committee.

Helen Yang, CFA

Founder and CEO of Andes Wealth Technologies, MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management / MIT Sloan Fellow, Bachelor from Tsinghua University

J. Helen Yang, CFA, founder and CEO at Andes Wealth Technologies, is a financial technology executive with 20+ years of experience. Prior to founding Andes Wealth Technologies, she held leadership positions at Thomson Reuters and Charles River Development (now part of State Street). A co-winner of the prestigious Harry M. Markowitz Special Distinction Award in 2011 (with Dr. Andrew Lo), Helen is also a research associate at MIT since 2014.

Helen holds dual Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and Math from Tsinghua University, Master of Science with a concentration in AI from RPI and MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Helen volunteers extensively. She currently serves on the board of Asian Americans for Equal Rights. Previously, she served on the Finance Committee for the Town of Lexington in Massachusetts, coached First Lego League robotics and youth soccer, and established the Community Service Scholarship at the Chinese American Association of Andover.

Lewis Wang

Associate Director of Glory Ventures

Lewis Wang is the Associate Director of Glory Ventures. He has abundant corporate management and industry consulting experience in TMT, Hi-end Manufacturing and Capital Market.

Prior to joining Glory Ventures, He worked at China Insights Consultancy and was responsible for business financial service related to technical manufacturing and medical equipment industry, as well as consulting service related to IPO project. Lewis worked in ABB for over five years, and participated a wide range of projects, including product strategy in marine industry, business development in new energy industry, market entry research and market expansion plan. Lewis has profound understanding in automation industry and has the experience to lead the industry research and provide support to the corporate strategy for the management. He holds bachelor degree of Applied Physics from Southeast University and currently acts as entrepreneurship coach for IDEA – Northeastern University’s Venture Accelerator.

Timothy Lindeman

VP Operations of Dimensional Insight, MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management

Tim Lindeman is a technology executive with a passion for doing business in China. Tim’s China journey began in 2000, immediately after he graduated from college with a degree in international relations. He arrived in China unable to speak a single sentence of Mandarin, but quickly immersed himself in Chinese and landed a job at Yonyou, China’s largest ERP vendor. There he learned the inner workings of a Chinese software company and helped them recruit foreign technology partners. Later Tim had the good fortune of meeting the founders of Dimensional Insight (a data analytics software company) who hired him to set up and run their China subsidiary. Through years of trial and error Tim and his team relentlessly built up a sales channel and customer base, and Dimensional Insight is now a well-known brand in China’s healthcare IT industry. In 2012 Tim returned to Boston to take on additional responsibilities at Dimensional Insight and completed an MBA at MIT Sloan. He continues to oversee the China market for Dimensional Insight, which remains the greatest challenge and passion of his career. In 2018 Tim started China BizConnect, an online platform to share research and experience to help technology leaders succeed in the China market.

Xiahong Lin

CEO of OckChain, Inc., Founder of Bodhi Foundation, Co-Founder of Continue Capital

Xiahong is a serial entrepreneur and software engineer who became interested in Bitcoin since 2011. Previously Xiahong worked as software engineer at Edmodo, Twitter and Tencent. He has a Master of Science from Purdue University where he specialized in Statistical Machine Learning, and Master of Science in Computer Science from Shanghai Jiaotong University.
